First Summer Camp: Babcock Hovey

Our first Summer Camp is a success. Each of the Scouts averaged 3-4 merit badges. Many of the Scouts will have their Footsteps exercises confirmed, and we will have a huge graduation of Scouts advancing to 1st class. God be praised for this landmark.

Our week was filled with many trials and triumphs. Your sons performed many tasks along with Campsite cleanup, daily, latrine cleaning, campsite flag ceremony, along with devotions and fellowship. There was even  some rough housing;  palying "rat slap Egyptian pinnocle" or something. It sounded nasty! The FirstAid kit  was kept handy.

Daily site inspections went well. On a scale of 100 possible pointes, the Troop started on Monday with 51. The week completed with a score of 84. Substantial for a first year troop. Our week was not just filled with camping activity.

As it typical on Thursday night, Scout non denominational religious service, called Vespers, is held. The adult leadership contacted the camp directors and asked for a space and time to have a Christian religous service. This was heartily agreed to, and run by the Scouts.  In  attendance: 13 Scouts and 8 Adults not from Troop122. God is good! There were many of the Scouts that stopped afterwards thanking the Scouts and Adult leaders for having this service.

There are many stories your Scouts have related since arriving home on Friday. Our prayer this weekend has been recovery and restoration for the Scouts, and families seeing the sons in a new light. Completing this week is difficult for many first timers. They are to be commeneded on their accomplishments.

In Christ,
William Redman
