A small compass on top?
I think a compass is a good idea. Also another idea is to add leather strips on the top hanging down with feathers at the ends.Alex says the top figure painted looks like a moose or Bull and could use spoons for antlers.
Maybe we could carve a flur-de-lis and paint a cross inside it?
